Manifesto
At Dreamy Writing Company, we love the craft of writing. From inside and out, and everything around. We care about words and what they mean, and also how they sound. We study authors and their styles; their history and their legacy. We like to read both the contemporaries and the classics. And we like to read from cover to cover, including preface, foreword, and yes we have to know where the book was published.
Writing isn’t the only thing we love though. We love collecting hardcovers (this website wasn’t designed by accident) and we drool over nice pens and notebooks. We have a taste for coffee and flaneuring makes us happy. We value craftsmanship, beauty, and design — doesn’t matter if it’s Bialetti or Patek Philippe.
Dreamy is an expression of our values, an effort to create what we think the world should be. We aspire to start a chain of heritage cafes, each restored in its original architecture. We want to take you on writing retreats in historical cities like Florence, Kyoto, and Varanasi. We also wish to design leatherbound journals and fine ink pens for you.
Now before we get to all that, we’re doing what we do best — software. I happen to be an engineer before I was a writer. Creating Ingenuity isn’t just natural to me, it’s the most effective way to contribute to the writing community. In a world where word processors are shaped for business documents, and personal knowledge managers end at note taking, Ingenuity is made for writing.
Ingenuity honors the timeless and universal writing process. The process that writers of all genres have followed for millennia. The app doesn’t just help you put words on the page, it helps you think and research. And when you’ve finished your first draft, Ingenuity helps you edit. So you collect the dots, and connect them, all in the same app.
We are as enthusiastic about technology as we are about writing. So by no means are we rejecting artificial intelligence, for the wonderful tool it is. But that’s all it is — a tool for refining your thought, exploring more directions, digging deep into the manuscript. We have harnessed it for every phase of writing, but we have a clear stance against using it for prose. There’s no generate/rewrite/refine button in the app, and if you ask for it in a conversation, Ingenuity simply refuses.
Our standards for quality are inspired by Steve Jobs’ principle of using good wood at the back of the cabinet even when nobody will ever see it. For example, we’ve optimized Ingenuity’s performance to the point that it glides through 5 million words.
